Evidence? Richard, that was always stated by the Commonwealth Network
to be something it would do. The company has always displayed Riddler
banners (Category 3) as part of its rotation of ads, and it has also been
displaying "barter" ads (Category 2) which are supposed to be ads they
exchange with other services in exchange for the other services displaying
CN or Riddler banners.
The main change is that with the loss of SoftBank to sell ads, the
Commonwealth
Network's paid ad ratio (according to the numbers currently displayed in the
online "Affiliate Information Center") dropped from 68% in January to
38% in February to less than 3% in March, leaving more than 97% of their
inventory to be used to promote their Riddler site. Since the company has
committed a fixed pool of $10,000 for all "Category 2 and 3" ads, they are
effectively picking up tens of millions of "free" ads for the Riddler site,
while affiliate sites are getting nothing at all.
