I just got a press release saying that a large advertiser has retained a
certain design firm as its "Web architect of record." This terminology is
new to me, and I wondered if anyone else on this list has encountered it,
either as an advertiser or as a design firm (or perhaps as an intermediary
ad agency working with one or the other), and if so, in what context and
with what result.

I'd also like to know what people think about this concept. Is Web
advertising different enough from traditional advertising that a company
needs two different "of record" agencies? Any ramifications you can think
of, positive or negative?
