CPM means "cost per thousand," and in the banner advertising world,
it means the cost per thousand banner displays (or in some cases, the
cost per visitor who sees a banner display, to avoid counting multiple
displays of the same ad to a single visitor). A CPM of $52 is not an
unreasonable rate for well-targetted ads -- indeed, a CPM of $100 or
above might be sustainable, if your site provides a good demographic
and produces RESULTS for your advertisers. However, the more
typical CPM is $20 and under, for general sites; the key is to find the
right advertiser for YOUR site and YOUR visitors.
