IN THE NEWS
-----------

Big 3 want to expand Internet ads
the detroit news
http://detnews.com/cyberia/sites/970430/big3/big3.htm

Online advertising may get a huge infusion of new dollars
from the big three automakers in the near future. According
to this article, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler are
bullish on the 'Net, but want to see some hard, positive
data before they let loose of the serious money.

==============

Reload, Redraw, Repeat
packet
http://www.packet.com/packet/boutin/97/17/index2a.html

Here is an interesting, though probably unlikely, suggestion
from Packet's Paul Boutin. Why don't Netscape and Microsoft
agree on a standard to have a browser report back how many
times a cached banner was shown?

Geographic Targeting Possible in New Ad Tool
web week
http://www.webweek.com/current/markcomm/graphic.html

Focalink's MarketMatch database will now be able to give
you sites on which to advertise based on geography.

==============

AOL Web Properties To Be Represented By Unit Of Katz
interactive week
http://www.zdnet.com/intweek/daily/970502h.html

It looks like AOL is done with repping its own ads. Katz
Millennium Marketing is now their exclusive representative
for ad sales.

IBM Shockwave Ad
as reviewed by the e-zine "Microscope"

http://www.pscentral.com/42897/review1.html

This is cool with a capital C. When you are first presented
with this banner, you have a bunch of puzzle pieces on the
right that you have to "put together." Once you do, a new
message appears and the banner becomes clickable. There is an
excellent visual cue to get you going (look for the 'jittery
puzzle piece').

Better than well-done is how I would rate this. These sorts
of ads - ones that support complex interaction at the
banner - are the future; no doubt.
