I think audio-based advertising may grow or have a spot in the web
advertising future, but I still think it has a long way to go to get there.
Until audio is a standard web feature it will have too many obstacles to
clear. I don't think the average consumer has the plug-in, latest broswer,
or the memory for their browser to play audio for them. My Netscape still
crashes everytime it automatically tries to play an .au or .wav file. Also
as Robert Raisch (sp?) of the Internet Company spoke about at WebAd 97,
bandwidth will have to improve for things like this to be common.
Streaming audio takes bandwidth, plus it still doesn't sound good enough
for me to turn off my CD player and listen to the web through my monitor
speakers.
