I can't speak to this specific directory, but my experience as a
professional in a related field has been that "directory" sites that
limit their listings only to paid clients rarely develop a useful
resource listing, and thus visitors rarely will make use of it.
I often get letters or email from companies that boast that their
attorney-list site generates "10,000 hits per month." When I ask
basic questions - such as how many visitors that represents, or
how many of those visitors are from California seeking a listing
for an estate planning attorney - they can't answer. (Keep in mind
that I already get 10,000 visitors per month looking at my estate
planning site.)
Certainly, it's wise to make sure your clients are listed in the
many free directories (such as my directory of estate planning
attorneys, which draws about 75 visitors per day) and in their
professional associations' online directories. But thus far, all the
clients who have retained me after finding me on the internet
have found me because they searched for information (content)
and found an article I had posted on my site that matched their
information search.
In addition, I'm not sure that a "directory" listing will create much
benefit if it merely links to a "business card" web site -- once the
visitor clicks to a professional's site, there should be some
information there that will help the consumer evaluate whether
to hire the professional.
See http://www.ca-probate.com/results.htm for my lengthy
discussion about marketing my estate planning practice on the
internet.
