ONLINE-ADS>> How to figure sales rep pay?

We are considering creating a new position for a sales representative who
would be selling both print(newspaper) and internet to major accounts.
The print accounts would be primarily new accounts that have not used
our type of advertising much historically.

What experience can anyone share with me on fair compensation for such a
position? We recognize that Internet sales commissions will be small
and slow in coming and that the print business, being new accounts, may
take a while to pay off as well. Is it naÔve to try to base goals on
dollars? Or should they be based on number of sales or accounts managed?
What split for base/commission? If anyone could share the models
they've employed and lessons learned I'd appreciate it.
