I've had similar problems - having to send two or three emails before I get
back advertising rates.

For instance I got an email from yahoo.co.jp on Sunday telling me our site
had been listed, and giving an email address if we want advertising
information. I replied immediatedly, briefly describing our target customer
and keywords we are interested in. Still no reply...

On a different subject, many US web sites often seem to think the 'World' in
World Wide Web means America. For example if you have an online form that
asks for both State and Country, please do not make *both* of them compulsory.
