Internet News : Many Sites Lag in Java, ShockWave Capabilities
Palo Alto, CA-based Focalink Communications Inc., a provider of Web
advertising management solutions, said its online research findings for
August show sluggish adoption of rich media types as the format used for
online advertisements. Rich media types, such as Java (accepted by 17
percent of Web sites), ShockWave (14 percent), and HTML-embedded banners (2
percent), lag considerably behind GIF banners, the standard online image
format, the company said.

--Not speaking directly about VRML, but in my opinion this research speaks
to the issues of adopted technologies and the value of time for web surfers.
Are people coming to a site for information or entertainment? And how long
will they wait to be entertained? I saw another survey recently that
concluded that for every 5 seconds it took for information to load the site
lost 12%-20% of it's viewers.
