For the past 18 months, I have followed this groups' ponderings with avid
interest, sometimes participating. One thing we never really seem to have
resolved, is where the traffic actually comes from. Is it search
engines? Is it bookmarks? Is it links? Is it browser buttons? Or is it
banners? Whilst we have gone deep into the minutiae of the above, we
never really seem to have resolved their relative importance. Admittedly,
it will be different for each site and some information can be gleaned
from server logs. But what about the poor folk who are pre-launch? Can we
establish some general rules here? Where are the studies?
