I am examining the potential of using online advertising during state or
national election campaigns in Australia. Obviously traffic at
political sites increase during election campaigns and the online media
sites devote space to political issues, news polls, etc. I am looking
for ideas or examples of how the internet could be used to influence
voting preferences.

As voting is compulsory in Australia (you are fined if you do not vote
in Federal, State or local elections), I am not interested in strategies
to motivate people to vote - just strategies to make them vote for a
particular party. In addition, my focus is major political parties, not
fringe groups.

Perspectives from any countries would be appreciated.
