I truly enjoy the value of the thought provoking discussions in
this list and hope to be able to give something back. Regarding Tom
Gerace and John McCormack's comments on the need for validating traffic
numbers, I'm sure we all can understand the business requirement for
this request. After all, in the terrestrial world, we ask for
references, quotes and background checks from those we do business
with--i.e. prove to me that I can trust in what you're telling me. One
of the major challenges of this medium is this proving of traffic
numbers. Mostly, these challenges arise due to technological
differences and variations--non-standard practices, definitions,
systems, etc.. These technological difference and variation will still
exist with third party ad management services such at MatchLogic,
Focalink, DoubleClick and others. For this very reason, we requested
the auditing services or Ernst & Young in for our TrueCount release.
Then again, this is, after all, an evolving market place and new
breakthroughs may help solve these challenges. In the meantime, third
party validation helps reinforce the comfort level of those who have
chosen to spend in this medium.
