=============== POST 6

Date: Mon, 27 Oct 97 13:28:01 -0800
From: Caryl Shaw <caryl_at_wired.com>
Subject: Internet advertising engineer (admaster)

Please respond to Jennifer Hiller (jenhiller_at_wired.com) regarding this
position.

Internet advertising engineer (admaster)

Wired Digital currently has a position open in the software development
group.

The Internet advertising engineer, or admaster, is responsible for
managing engineering issues related to serving Internet advertisements -
similar to the way a traditional webmaster is responsible for serving
content.

The admaster is responsible for development and second-line support for
the ad server software (NetGravity). The admaster works with various
groups; with operations, to provide reliable service, with the ad sales
and ad production groups, to provide engineering representation and
technical support, and with others in engineering, to plan, develop, and
integrate new components of our ad serving methodology. The admaster also
works closely with the primary software vendor - NetGravity - and other
related external groups, including the Internet Advertising Board (IAB)
and the Audit Bureau of Verification Services (ABVS) for traffic auditing.

Although the admaster may draw on other groups, this is largely an
independent role in terms of daily tasks, and the person filling this
role must be comfortable with defining task lists, setting priorities,
providing feedback, and handing over deliverables on a regular basis -
without daily or task-level supervision. The admaster reports to, and
will work closely with, the director of software development. The
admaster will also work very closely with less-technical counterparts in
the advertising production, scheduling, and reporting areas of the ad
sales department, and with colleagues in the operations and applications
maintenance area inside engineering.

The ideal candidate for the position will have experience with NetGravity
ad-server software (either 2.x or 3.x), including installation,
configuration, operation, customization, and vendor relations in a live
production environment. Extensive experience with other complex
business-critical Internet software, for example personalization systems,
may be applicable. You must also have very strong systems integration
skills, within the context of three to five years' programming experience
with C. Some experience with Perl 5 and Java is also desirable. You
should also be able to demonstrate strong design skills, including
requirements management, system and application architecture, and good
low-level code design. You must be able to communicate clearly on both
technical and nontechnical subjects, verbally and in writing. You must be
familiar with Web technologies and, ideally, have some interest in media.
Most important is a proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced
production environment, accomplishing business-critical tasks and making
use of available task-oriented help without much direction. Bonus points
go to those with technical project leadership experience and experience
in the publishing or advertising industries.

Hello group!

We are in the process of upgrading our ad management software and I need
some help with identifying the best ad management software available. I
am looking for something that can easily place ads across a network of
sites, work in a dynamic page environment, give us great targeting
capabilities, and easy to use reporting for the advertiser and the site,
that comes in at the right price.

I have been to Mark Welch's site but I am looking for some real-world
experiences from list members and professional reviews. If anyone knows
of any reviews or has personal recommendations (or products to avoid),
please contact me at <mailto:lstendal_at_futurepages.com>.

already registering the English version of their site with all of the major
directories - and the provider doing the English version was not able to

Subject: survey

I would like to ask you for your support: I am a graduate student and I am
doing a survey about 'Industrial Marketing in Electronic Mediated
Environments - Does the Internet meet the Communication Needs of Industrial
Marketing?' That means, I am collecting information about how companies use
the Internet for their purposes, a very interesting topic.

Because I am not an Internet Pro like you, I find it extremely difficult to
collect email addresses of my target group (industrial, business-to-business,
and service companies with a web site) by surfing the web, and to get people
to participate at my survey.

Therefore I would like to ask you to distribute my email (or parts) to your
subscribers and to motivate them to participate at this very interesting
survey.

What can I offer? I can offer you two things:

1. a report on the survey,

2. to implement a link to your page (it is not a big site yet but people are
already looking at it and I just got started to publish this topic and the
site).

Please, check out my site at http://members.aol.com/imkineme

Thank you very much in advance.

******************************************************************************

PARTICIPATE IN A SURVEY? WHY BOTHER?

o To help a student finish his degree
o To contribute to a scientific analysis of Industrial Marketing with your
expertise
o To receive a report on this survey and see what other industries -- or
maybe your
own -- do

As a graduate student, I'm working on a final thesis entitled 'Industrial
Marketing in Electronic Mediated Environments: Does the Internet Meet the
Communication Needs of Industrial Marketing?' The paper's purpose is to
analyze the communication aspects of Industrial Marketing (also Service and
Business-to-Business Marketing) and to determine the role the Internet plays
in this marketing.

If you participate, I will send you a copy of my analysis at the end of
November. The information you provide will be kept strictly confidential. All
you need to do is:

o go to my web site at http://members.aol.com/imkineme/survey.htm and do the
survey online, or
o request a copy as a WinWord document by emailing me at wabnitz_at_aol.com, or
o download it from my homepage, print it out and return it by fax to

Either way, thank you very much for your time.

Are there any lists in particular that would be interested in this type of

Subject: ad critique

Hello Everybody,

About a year ago, I didn't even know how to turn a computer on, much less
creat a website. I joined this list to learn from you who know how to do it.

I haven't recieved enough messages yet to get a feel of this list. But then
I never had any dealings with list until 3 days ago when I stumbled accross a
list by accident. I joined that list and was amazed at all the email I got.

It was rewarding to get some email that wasn't junk!. So I decided to go to
a search engine and look for other list. This is how I found this one. I
signed up right away.

Being that this is a list for people who publish, ether e-mags or websites, I
thought this is the list I'm most interested in.

I have created a newsletter called The Morecash Newsletter!. So far its only
a website, but I would like to make it an email newsletter. I can get email
addresses to send it to, but I don't want to spam it.

Having tried to market a couple of business opportunities, I learned that a
lot of people are promoting the same thing I am. Giving me a small return
for my effort.

So I decided to be creative and come up with away to get people to come to a
website filled with information. That's when I created Ricnum's Ad Page! in
hopes to draw people to the site. I posted ads everywhere. Still my count
is small. I get more writers sending me articles to post on my site, than
orders for the free ad space I offer.

I've followed all the rules, as I understand them. I use the word Free as my
first word for the ads. I've read 100's of articles over the years on
marketing. Most dealing with print advertising. So I do have some knowledge
of the subject.

I would really like to learn how I can make this site successful and The
Morecash Newsletter. If any of you can share with me some tips as to how I
can get people to learn about my site without spamming and without spending a
lot of money. I would be delited

I work a daytime job, so I'm not loaded with money. I have spent a lot on it
though. I placed an ad in a large email publication, but it hasn't came out
with my ad in it yet

To give you an idea of what I am doing. Here is the Ad I've posted and ran in
the email newsletter.

Free Money Making Reports. Free 40 Word Classified Ad. The Morecash
Newsletter.
The Internet Law Library. Plus A Whole Lot More. A Wealth Of Information All
At Ricnum's Ad Page!
http://members.tripod.com/~Ricnum/adpage.html

So tell me folks. Is this the wrong ad or what? Please feel free to visit my
site and tell me what you think. I have placed a lot of information on it.
And some of the articles are by people that everyone of you have heard of.
You can go directly to the site. or if you would like the contents of The
Morecash Newsletter. Send an email to sendinfonow_at_infofree.com.

I've made this letter to long already so I will go for now.

Subject: setting up an web ad-campaign

Hi, all.

I work with small, volunteer-run group that offers free roleplaying
game/discussion lists. We decided for various reasons to look for ways of
raising money to purchase and run our own system.

Since we don't want to start charging subscribers, we thought advertising
would be the way to go. One problem, no one has time (as a volunteer) to
set up and manage an ad campaign big enough to raise enough money on a
steady basis.

Obviously, we are going to have to do something different. One
possibility we are considering is to see if someone would do it on a
commission-only basis.

I'd appreciate any ideas--if this one sucks--of how we should proceed.
