Sites that do not take advantage of the web by hyperlinking to other
relative sites become DEAD END SITES. If your desire is to get repeat
visits, becoming a HUB can be a great advantage. Not that being a link
page is the way to go, but combining content services and interesting
links together add value. Dead end sites generally don't provide enough
information to bring visitors back time after time (unless we are
talking about a huge searchable databases like CitySearch). If I go
through all of the sections that a site has to offer and do not find
them to be a resource for other good sites relative to that interest, I
do not bookmark it. I simply say to myself: that was a good site, I've
seen all they have to offer, thank you, bye. And I know that I don't
need to return.

To address some of the past remarks discussed on this thread: I do not
agree with link blackmail, "I will link, if you link back". Truth of the
matter is that we decide who we want to link to and do not discourage
anyone from linking to us (our surveys show that we get more traffic
from "link from other site" than we do from "search engine"). However,
we surely do let sites know that we find them of value to our audience
and are providing a link. We ask them to please consider us for the
same, but it's totally up to them if they want to link and it will not
affect our link to them. Sites often notify us in the same way, we check
them out in the same way and if they apply, we link to them. I hate to
say it, but if someone said they would link only if I did to them, I
would most likely pass.

ALSO, I hope we can start another thread about ROI. It is getting close
to buzz word overload. Is this our PROACTIVE of the 90's. They add a
concept like ROI to MBA programs and the world has a new concept for
doing business:

PROACTIVE: Look before you leap, consider the possible outcomes of an
action and take steps in advance to ensure positive outcomes, plan,
DUH.....

ROI (Return on Investment): The key to running any business, has been in
practice for hundreds of years, Business 101, use company resources in
the most efficient way, make money, be accountable for spending money,
DUH.....

Truth of the matter is that all money spent by a company should yeild
some sort of favorable outcome, or the money is being spent in the wrong
manner. Why is this such a new concept in advertising???????
