I sell sponsorship of pages at my site on a quarterly basis,
and I require payment up front. Thus far, some advertisers
have resisted, but ultimately they pay me up front because
they perceive a clear value from my page.
Note that this is distinct from participation in an ad network,
where payments usually follow ad placement by 30-90 days.
In that case, I work only with ad networks who appear
professional and reasonably local (for example, one reason
I was willing to sign on with FlyCast is that they are based in
San Francisco, which is only 30 miles away, so if they broke
their payment promises I could sue them easily).
