Used to be (back in the old days, last year), payment up front was
the norm. It no longer is - although some sites do want pre-payment
for the first order from an unknown advertiser.

I invoice each Friday for runs that began that week. Many invoice on
a monthly basis. With an extended run, payment must occur within the
first 30 days for the entire run unless monthly billing terms have
been established.

For a sponsorship (which involves design and/or implementation work
on the part of the site), pre-payment or partial pre-payment makes
sense (30% in advance, 30% on acceptance, 30% on launch or at 30
days?).

We will take credit cards, but only because we are set up to do so
for other online transactions. And the advertiser picks up the 3%-to-
6% fee.

If you anticipate a lot of international business, wire transfers
make sense. Less risk of loss (yours, your advertisers') over the
exchange rate. And unless you are working with a major agency, pre-
payment makes sense with an overseas buy. Different laws, different
courts.
