Greetings,

I am a relative newbie to this list...lurked for a while but I have a
question to all of you on-line advertisers. Have you ever heard of or
worked with VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) banner ads? I realize
that it is relatively new, like Java banners or Shockwave banners, but I
have a feeling that it might take off.

Recently Pepsi tested a VRML animated banner (that was less than 8K for a
20 second annimation...smaller than many animated GIFs or Shockwave files)
and it received quite good feedback. There is an article about the Pepsi
banner at the following:

http://vrml.sgi.com/features/banner/banner.html

To view the VRML banner, you need to have a VRML browser or plug-in like
CosmoPlayer 1.0; as well as Netscape 3.0 or Explorer 3.0 and 32 MB of RAM
(recommended). You can download the CosmoPlayer plug-in/browser at a
variety of places (http://vrml.sgi.com/intro.html).

My questions are these: Do you think that VRML advertising will catch on?
How could you see it being used? What drawbacks do you see? I think that
Pepsi is living up to it's brand...The Next Generation (in web banner ads).
(sorry) I'd love some feedback.

Regards,

Michael Sheehan
