One of the early Net Legends I encountered was the (in)famous
Neiman-Marcus cookie e-mail. I'd be interested in knowing what, if
anything, NM has done about this (I haven't visited their web site, but
there was no online defense about it then, which was probably 1994).

And I believe the Intel Pentium Chip math fiasco shows that companies
need to monitor what's being said online -- and respond, perhaps using
tried-and-true crisis/risk communications techiques: full disclosure,
approachable delivery (not like that typified by Exxon execs),
acknowledgement of the validity of the concern (if there is one, which
in the case of Intel and Exxon, there clearly was). Now, if someone is
spreading *lies* that moves beyond image attacks and into liable. Does
anyone have a list of online libel legal cases?
