I can't stand it any more.

Are search engines becoming completely useless due to tactics like this?
Are quality sites going to die because of some these "cheats"?

I still have hope.

My simple three step process to search engine success:

1. Produce quality CONTENT.
2. Publish quality CONTENT on the web.
3. Repeat steps one and two.

Yes, it's good to have good titles, meta tags, etc. Of course you should
submit to the major search engines. Patience is required.

In the end, it all comes down to content. If someone is looking for Windows
NT drivers for the XYZ sound card, they'll search for "XYZ sound card
windows nt drivers", or something similar. I'm going to beat all these
search engine spam methods, because I have content about the XYZ sound card
drivers for Windows NT. I've hit my target audience squarely in the nose.
Yeah, I'm going to lose a few folks who might just type "sound card" or
"Windows NT" or something similar. Are they going to find the drivers on
the sites that come up high on the search engines? Probably not. Are they
going to refine their search, or just give up? I think most will refine
their searches.

People who find quality content will often create links to it. They tell
their friends. They write reviews. THAT's popularity.

I believe the search engines will be coming full circle. Cheat methods are
becoming more and more insignificant. Those of us who have invested blood,
sweat and tears in our sites will see returns on our investment. Empty
sites with little value will be exposed as such.

Or, maybe I'm the fool.

I'm willing to take the gamble.
