ONLINE-ADS>> Affiliate Tracking, Banner Mgt & Stats

When we started work on our affiliate/associate program in '96 there was no
option but to develop an in-house tracking system. Today there are a
growing number of services - Linkshare, GoldRush, BeFree, and others - that
might enable us to offer a better experience to our partners, and expand
our network at a faster pace.
I had a good meeting with the folks at Linkshare last week. I like the fact
that LinkShare delivers ready access to 1,000+ prospective sites, each of
them already familiar with the system. But I have my reservations,
including their requirement for exclusivity (24 months). The cost of
BeFree's system puts it in major league territory. GoldRush seems to be
still working out a business/financial model that will scale.
So before I lock my company into a long-term network relationship, or
pay-out big time for an application (or further in-house development), I
would really appreciate hearing - from either side of the buying and
selling equation - your experience of working with these companies, or
others. (BTW, thanks Mark Welch for maintaining that list of players:

One other observation and thought: There is a substantial cross-over
between managing banner inventory, tracking affiliate sales, and figuring
out site/visitor stats. Most of the mainstream ad-mgt applications allow
CPM and/or cost-per-action pricing. How much of a stretch is it for them to
add affiliate tracking? Would you rather work with three "best of breed"
apps or outsourced services - or have one application or service
relationship?
