ONLINE-ADS>> 3D Gamers=Target Market?

Hello all,

I thought you might find this interesting: Lost In Space the 3D video game
was released in conjunction with Lost In Space the film at
http://dangerwillrobinson.lycos.com/vrml.html last Friday. This marks the
most advanced use of VRML in a marketing campaign, to date, and while many
of you may not know it, VRML can be used to create ad banners that are as
immersive as Java, with less to download.

What interests me most about this release, however, is the potential to
target the online gaming community as a market, utilizing the medium they
are familiar with: virtual reality. Maybe you are not familiar with Quake,
the first person shoot-em-up from id Software, but it enables people
(arguably with too much time on their hands) to create their own maps, or
worlds, that people can play within. What if there existed a map that was
the most popular on the planet, would you --as an advertiser-- pay to have
your logo as the main logo used in the background throughout the game? Is
that the answer? Should gaming be left unto itself, or is it a market unto
itself?

Are online marketing and gaming converging, or is this particular use of
virtual reality by Lost In Space just another cool use of technology?

Sorry, if I was a monkey, I'd be named "George" (ask your kids, they know).
