I understand that Net Ratings is providing this service of telling you a wide
arrary of information relative to user information and trends on a
particular web
site. My question is where does Net Ratings get their information? Do
they have a
random panel of users that they use and change over frequently? If so does the
panel have specific software installed on their computers specifically to track
their usability? How much of a representation of the World Wide Web
universe do
they query? Is their data from phone calls they make to find out this
information? Do they simply have an online survey that they are extracting
their
data from?
Lots of questions I know. These are very important questions that need
important
answers when we talk about Web ratings. Many companies are providing
ratings on
the Web. How accurate are they? My opinion is that we should stick to the
basics
of what we really accurately do know about web sites and their users. I
think it
is great if a company is providing in depth Web ratings. These ratings
need to be
representative of the entire web as much as possible, and need to be more
than just
surveys, phone calls, or educated guesses. If we cannot provide it that
accurately
than we shouldn't say it that accurately
