Hello fellow Online Advertisers.

I've been a silent subscriber to the list since I started my site back
in July of '97, I've enjoyed it a great deal, and I've learned all that
I know about IA on this list. Due to Giuseppe's post I think it's a
perfect time to start a discussion about the topic that interest me the
most, Internet Advertising in Latin America.

According to what big companies as Microsoft or IBM says, the Latin
American computers and internet market it's a boom in the making, the
growth rate of people connected to the internet in Latin America it's
one of the highest in the world. Currently there's an estimate of almost
4 millions people surfing the net in Latin America,,, and by the end of
the century this user base it's expeted to grow to 14 millions.

The Latin American internet market it's distributed on three world
regions, South America, Spain and the Hispanic community in the United
States. Of this three the newest it's the South American market, and
right now it's the one that's growing faster.

Since early '97, a group of sites has been triying to create an Internet
Advertising market on our region, but today no one could claim a real
financial success at it, but if you ask me, I see the best chance for
this market to explode in 1998, I really hope(and work) for it, because
if it doesn't explode this year, it might never become a real market at
all.

There are a couple of challenges that we face right now, but there are
also lots of trends that suggest that this might become a succesful
market, I'll try to cover this on my future posts, because there is a
lot to discuss on this topic, and it will be interesting to read what
other subscribers has to say about it.

I will focus my future posts on the following subjects:

- The Economical Integration challenge, and why we need it to succeed.

- Ad representation firms, Are they really feeling the potential of this
market ???

- The CPM model, it's the right model for us? (my answer...Yes)

- PlanetaChat(my site) sucess story...but where are the bucks ??

Hope this discussion may be of interest for the list, I think we could
learn a lot from you, the experts of this industry in the US.
