This group in general, and Mark in particular, have provided
useful advice for me in the past, so hopefully I can return
the favor re: Linkshare.

To be as fair as possible (so I don't have to hit Mark up
for a pro bono defense) I was probably an early website to
register with Linkshare - approximately November of last
year. Our site is an investment site, and I thought I would
link to some upscale products, hopefully in keeping with our
upscale visitors. So, I entered a request for FAO Schwartz
and Omaha Steaks. FAO Schwartz (a very upscale NYC retailer
- primarily toys) never responded at all and Omaha Steaks
was so late as to make it worthless. So, I more or less
forgot about them.

Although I am generally not that nice <G>, I decided to give
them another try when a person from Shades.com and the Swiss
Army knife made me an offer. So in February I put up banners
and links to their site. Result to date - zero, nadda,
nothing. We don't have to worry about a check being cut as
there have been no sales as a result of leads from my site -
according to the Linkshare reporting.

To put this in perspective, I do not put the Linkshare
banners on my "good" pages, but nonetheless there have been
well over 10,000 impressions. I haven't checked lately, but
I believe the combined stats for both the Shades and the
Swiss Army knife total at least 100 visits to the two
different sites in total. So far, about average, but no
sales. So, my question is - if they can't convert even 1%
of their visitors to sales, why should I link to them in the
hopes of even small commissions?

I am willing to admit that perhaps the sample size is too
small, so I have let it run longer. Maybe I am foolish for
not taking it down, but on the other hand I have priorities
at the moment that are more important, and like all of you,
I am time constrained. But, my experience to date is a

resounding - No !
