This is in response to 3 different posts in o-a #177, though all pertain
to advertising:
1. We used ClickTrade to test a new banner. We were new to
the CPC game and set a relatively high rate ($0.15). We
were assaulted with requests from sites that wanted to run
this ad, and spent our $500 over the course of a weekend
(though 1 specific site took most of it). Our long-term
benefit was that we captured many of these visitors and,
though our numbers are not as high as when the campaign was
active, they have not regressed to the point prior to the
campaign. We didn't expect the click through rate (over
4%), so we're going to adjust our CPC rate for a new
campaign. Another benefit is that we can now pick up 2 or 3
sites that ran our campaign and provided good click through.
Similar to what was stated in another post, we can now use
ClickTrade to manage these independent campaigns for us.
2. I agree with Fred Warner, who wrote in o-a #177:
>"The good experiences with a CPC were with deadline
>campaigns, or campaigns designed to run for a short period
>of time with a specific goal; developing an initial run of
>traffic to a site, or selling overstock of a specific
>quantity of a specific product for a reduced price..."
This is exactly what we did in our ClickTrade campaign.
Also, I like CPC advertising for smaller trafficked sites,
because it is easier to track your return on investment.
ClickTrade even allows pay for action campaigns.
3. With respect to Larry Schopfer's survey/challenge, we've
been there and done that (remnant ad on Burst vs. Targeted
advertising). Our results: targeted advertising all the
way. Burst has a great system and the CPM is attractive,
but I'd HIGHLY recommend using a run of network style
campaign for testing, and/or for those sites that have the
cash to spread their banner over the Internet landscape.
Whatever happens, good luck and much success... (by the way,
we've signed up to carry your ad on our site through Burst!)
Regards,
Jim
