Hi:

I am experiencing some problems that I hope I can find some
solutions for from this list.

I have an active web page that serves an expanding
clientelle of in excess of 10,000 hosts monthly.

Herein lies the problem. We don't know exactly how many
readers we have nor do we know how many banners are being
served. The page is proxied by an unknown number of proxy
servers that are caching pages for an unknown length of
time.

The problem first surfaced when we compared the banners
served to the actual number of html pages served. The number
of impressions was approximately 50% of our HTML page count.
We then proceeded to eliminate banner caching by randomly
identifying the banners. The total impressions went up by
about 10%.

What makes the problem worse is that two sites and two
proxies (that we are sure of) are all drawing banners from
the same place. The numbers above are all derived from the
logs of only one site. We did some modelling and in one
model we should be getting 20 times the number of
impressions then we are getting. In another model we should
be getting twice the impressions.

My banner serving organization has been experiencing
problems of late and has not had time to examine the issue
and suggest solutions.

Have you had experience along these lines and how did you
resolve the problem? Do you have experience with proxy
servers and how do they influence your pages? Were there any
other problems that you have encountered with banner serving
or using banner service agencies?

I will post a summary of all replies.

Thank you for your assistance.
