I am the Marketing Director for one of the top
senior-oriented newspapers in the country - serving ~700,000
older adults each month. We are about to venture into the
world of Cyberspace, and I'm looking for any help that I can
get, as far as, how to secure "Charter" sponsors for the
site and how to set-up revenue-sharing (affiliate) programs?
Our newspaper, combined with many other senior publications
from around the country, are about to launch an online
community for our older adult audience. We are currently
seeking out companies to sponsor the site to our highly
desirable demographic - the affluent 50+. Our site is in the
finishing stages of development, and I am seeking some
assistance on how to secure "Charter" sponsors? Being a
full-scale media company, we could offer "package
advertising deals" to potential sponsors - in the forms of
print (~ 1,000,000 circ), direct mail (~3,000,000 circ),
Senior Expos (nationwide), etc. - all targeted directly to
older adults. I would think that what we have to offer would
be appealing to advertisers? - A niche audience, years of
experience and reputation, and the ability to cross-promote
at a national level.
All of this brings me to my next question, about affiliate
programs? I have read so much information about affiliate
programs, yet I am still confused on the best way to set
some up on our Web site. Is it better to, 1. Contact
affiliates directly and set-up individual programs, or 2.
Use the services of a third-party affiliate program - such
as LinkShare, BeFree, NexChange, etc.?
Both have pros and cons and I have accumulated so much data,
that it's hard to discern. If you set-up your own programs,
you could negotiate with each affiliate for commissions,
co-branded content, etc. But if you use a third-party, they
handle all the tracking, maintenance, billing, etc. Thus, my
question - what's the best route to go?
Any insight on what direction I should go, would be helpful
and very much appreciated. I have been reading the postings
for quite some time now, but I have just worked-up enough
courage to ask my questions. But I guess - "The only stupid
question is the one that's not asked."
Thank you.
