Jonathan, I think you've already begun to weigh the pros and
cons for yourself. Now you have to determine what is most
important to you. Do you want to be able to customize,
co-brand, increase traffic, and retain 100% of the revenue
Affiliates receive? Or do you want the ease of receiving
one check from a service that has made arrangements with a
set group of companies (whether they are the best content
choice for you or not).20
Forgive me, but I'm a little biased since our service is a
turnkey solution for sites that includes co-branding,
credits Affiliates for every member purchase, and pays 25%
of the gross revenue spent on our services by Affiliate
members, etc. If the apparent plug bothers anyone, I
apologize, but I just hate it when Affiliate programs as a
whole are hung out to dry because of the few that do not
have their Affiliates' best interests at heart.
Jonathan, are you more comfortable selling and negotiating
sales and sponsorships for your site yourself or would you
rather have a third-party handle it for you? Do you want
full revenue and control? Or do you need to delegate some
responsibilities so you can focus on other aspects of your
site? The same questions (and answers) should be applied to
your Affiliate decisions. Best of luck to you.
