I find myself agreeing with Ramon Ray's comments in respect
of niche market adverts. However, looking at it from the
point of view of a niche site owner, the complications
inherent in such marketing immediately come to light.

I am currently developing a web site with a very defined yet
extensive demographic (you couldn't get much more defined!)
As such, the traditional site "sponsors" such as eads and
safe, whilst providing a great service for mainstream sites,
are unable to host ads which suit sites with more defined
audiences.

The question arises - how am I to find sponsors whose
product bears some relation to the content of my site?

The obvious answer to this would be to go out in search of
appropriate sponsors. This I have done - and found many
which would fit in admirably with the content of my site.
However, how does one approach the intended advertiser? By
direct email, one puts oneself in danger of being accused of
"spamming" (and rightly so.) So the question remains - how
does a site owner, whose site is targeted at a demographic
(no matter how easily catered too) go about finding
advertisers/ sponsors? By waiting for sponsors to come to
him/her, he/she is put at risk of having a site which only
serves to eat up capital (quite possibly for some time!)

Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue, or past
experiences with either finding or giving targeted "niche
market" sponsorship?

Corin Moss.
