Safe-Audit is perhaps unique in running all four CPM, CPC
and CPA and CPS campaigns on behalf of clients through our
network. Most networks are more limited in their selection
of payment options.
We even have one client at the moment running three
campaigns in parallel using three different payment methods.
So that gives us a unique insight into the different results
that can be expected. Let me say first that I have long
maintained that CPS campaigns rarely pay an adequate return
to their host sites. However as always on the web, things
are a'changing. It is still true that I view most CPS (cost
per sale) applications with some scepticism. We try not to
not run a campaign for our members unless we are fairly sure
it will generate an adequate return. Occasionally I allow
myself to be persuaded to run an untested campaign (and I
usually end up regretting it).
In any event since we function as a market I know if there
is any doubt about the likely return our members tend to
ignore it. So when I launch a new CPA or CPS campaign I like
to be able to tell our members what kind of a return they
can expect. That is why we usually test campaigns on a CPM
or CPC basis before trying CPA or CPS. The trial run tells
us what we can expect. And that allows us to give our
members the confidence to give their traffic for that
campaign.
In general when the advertiser is known to our members CPA
will generate the best return for our members and at the
same time make our advertisers really happy. It is a win win
situation. When we can tell our members what they will earn
with a CPA campaign in terms of click through (generally 25
to 50 cents per click) they are happy to pile in and we can
then provide our advertisers real volume (up to 2,000
actions a day). Many of these campaigns run at 3% CTR (or
even higher) so that means $7.50 to $15 CPM equivalent so
our members love them.
So in conclusion, although Cost per Sale still generally
doesn't work to the satisfaction of the host, CPA is a most
satisfactory option if handled right.
