Regarding Stephen Gabrush's insight into Siemen's ad-busting
software, I am not alarmed. The people who would use this
are few and tend to be those who resent ad banners to the
point that they just want click to begin with. This is
highlighted by the fact that the article says, "Catlett
estimates that only 0.3 percent of Netizens actually use
ad-busting programs."

The fact that millions of people don't bother changing their
default home address in their browser software points out
that people won't go through the trouble of downloading and
installing something that requires considerable effort.
However, I would be wary if it was very easy to do (say
point, click, install - the AOL approach), and am concerned
about what trend this holds for the future of ad banners. I
happen to think the next trend (though being largely used)
in advertising is custom size banners (that are hard to
filter as most filters look for standard banner measurements
468 x 80) and sponsorship affiliations. However, I don't
think the standard banner is dead by any means.
