We have a new web site called PlanetRider.com. We are an Internet travel
guide that organizes, rates and reviews other travels sites. We are, so to
speak , a "find" engine. After poring over thousands of travel sites we
only keep the best and give them a rating of 1-3 balloons with a short
summary of the site. PlanetRider is designed to help the user get through
all the clutter and find the information they need,
The business model is advertising. We have been online for about 5 weeks
and have already received the top 5% site award from Lycos.
Here's a dilemma: How do you make the site extremely efficient and useful
for the user who wants to get through the material as quickly as possible
while maintaining a decent amount of page views to satisfy our advertisers
and generate the kind of revenue we are seeking. There seems to be a
constant tension between both. Have others had the same problem? If so how
have you overcome it?
Another issue we are concerned about is Interstitials. Periodically you
read a lot about them but don't see many. If you think it is a good
product to sell but are trying to get the user to their destination point
as quickly as possible, what do you do? Again it seems to be a
contradictory pull. Any thoughts/ suggestions?
