My personal opinion on interstitials is:

Company A will begin using using interstitials to increase ad revenue.
An intelligent Company B will go out and create a competing (as good as
or better) service that does not have the interstitials and refuses to
use such intrusive and bothersome techniques. So long as company B
offers the same or better service (and advertises sufficiently) people
will stop using Company A and begin using Company B.

Even if "everyone" started using interstitials, someone is going to use
"we don't use interstitials--more user friendly" as their selling point
and obtain a significant number of users from services that do use such
things.

Imagine if a search engine began using insterstitials--how soon do you
think it would take those users to stop using that search engine and use
a different one instead? I already stopped using the search engine I
always had because their server was taking too long to bring up the
results.

Another individual told me he stopped using a service because they began
using interstitials.
