Yes, the respondants are self-selected and please note that the GVU people
make this point on their web site (at least they used to).
That said -- many of their data points (gender breakdown, HH$, etc.) have
been "validated" by other surveys, more rigorous (and allegedly
statistically valid represetations of the US population). So it's not all
"balony" to be dismissed because it shows possible trends, not "hard"
statistics (whatever they are, since most newspaper-type surveys don't even
report their standard deviation but report as news "changes" of only a
couple % points -- probably not statistically significant differences but
hey, it's news).
