There have been many discussions about why sites run contests.
Some say they are run only to collect the e-mail addresses of
those that enter in order to build a companies mailing list.
Others just want people to find their site. Still others say they
are just attempting to build brand or name recognition.

As the host of a large contest listing site, Contestworld, I would
like your feedback on this issue so I can better serve those sites
whose contests we list.

Regardless of your reason for running a contest on your web site,
it can best serve you if it is noticed. To that end I suggest any
site running a contest take at least these two common steps:

1) Post your contests to these newsgroups:

alt.consumers.sweepstakes
alt.sweepstakes

and if there is no cost to enter:

alt.consumers.free-stuff

Don't be shy! These newsgroups exist for this purpose and your
post will be welcome... this is not considered spam or bad
netiquette.

2) Tell contest listing sites about your contest. This is where
most surfers go to find out about contests around the net. For
instance you can request a free contest listing from us by filling
out a simple form at:
http://www.contestworld.com/add.html

Visitors come to us to find YOU! Over 700 unique visitors a day
visit us with the sole purpose of finding contest sites on the
net. So help us help you by requesting a free listing in our
database.

In addition there are dozens of other contest listing services on
the net willing to tell the web surfing public about you site...
but you'll have to find those for yourselves!
