Following on from various remarks about my comments on the unusually
high proportion of UK journalists who do not use email or who do not
like email press releases I would like to add..

The comments were from working journalists in the UK. I do not endorse
them, quite the opposite. I was a business press journalist for 10 years
and still write for various UK publications. Email and Web archives are
the best ways to get press releases as far as I am concerned. I never
give my postal address for press releases these days. I have better
things to do than tear open envelopes.

I have even written articles recently having conducted interviews
entirely by email. It sure beats getting up at 4.00 am (GMT) to speak to
Hong Kong (for those with limited geographical knowledge that's the
former British Colony in China, not the big monkey).

The really odd thing about some of the comments I have had from other
journalists is that in some cases people who write about technology are
scared to use it. They are the exception, thankfully, but anyone trying
to use email to disseminate press information should be aware that not
everybody is as enthusiastic about the medium as members of this list.

Intelligent use of email is very powerful. But please note the
"Intelligent."
