>Why not rich media?

It is acknowledged that "rich media" is attractive for many different
reasons, foremost of which is that it turns the web into a sexy ad vehicle
similar in power to "television". However, it is still very early in the
game for "rich media" to make sense as a standard element in the online ad
game. One reason is that rich media is a time suck for the advertiser and
publisher. Yes, rich media gets a better response, but so does going
"beyond the page" in magazines and running pop-ups, inserts, or BRC cards.
It is tough enough to run a 468x60 .gif banner across 40 sites than to add
HTML, Shockwave, RealAudio, etc. into the mix. It takes too many people to
spend too few dollars in online media. Adding rich media increases the
manpower to manage an online advertising campaign because of longer phone
conversations with sites on what can/can't be
done/standards/rates/makegoods etc...
