We don't have to limit our thinking regarding Web rings
just to our company's main site. Yes, I can see why
you might not want to join a ring full of marginal
sites with your own gazillion dollar corporate page,
but why do you have to?

Other options exist. One is to build a ring-only
microsite that is both more appropriate for the ring
and keeps your image safe, if that's what you're
worried about. For that matter you could build MANY
ring-ready microsites that are topically matched to
each ring, with your own banners on them in addition to
the ring-code that marks you a member.

A major sporting goods manufacturer could easily build
a ring-only microsite for 5 or 10 rings related to
different sports (mountain climbing, paragliding,
etc.), and then have their corporate site (where they
sell merchandise), linked to the ring microsites via
their own banners. Bingo.

There are many ways to use web rings to both contribute
to the ring AND help direct people to your commerce
site. The commerce site itself never has to join the
ring to do it.

Think outside the box...
