I agree with Frank that quality content keeps people coming back to a site
(repeat usage), but definitely not with the contention that it brings them
there in the first place (trial usage). In an increasingly crowded market
for online content, it's critical to spend to generate awareness, and
important to spend to reinforce brand image. GoSki (http://www.goski.com)
generates millions of page views each month 'the old fashioned way.' That
is, we got started early ('95), have a successful concept and benefit from
very positive media coverage, word of mouth and search engine rankings and
reviews. But the fact is that's no longer enough. So our advertising and
promotion budget is increasing dramatically.

And I'm not convinced that Mr. Glazer is clueless. I don't think the
people at go2net are clueless, and they seem to be on a similar course.
There is high quality content out there today that is under-promoted and
thus under-utilized. It makes good sense to aggregate that content in some
meaningful way and leverage marketing dollars across those properties.
