Don't think I've ever posted any messages to these lists but have been
lurking for quite some time. Great lists. I've learned much. I do have a
question now that has come up in another context, however.

Does anyone happen to know if the search engine indexing robots used by
yahoo, metacrawler, infoseek, etc. will access and read ALT tags in the
"AREA" markup of imagemaps? I personally like imagemaps at least on the
home page for their brevity, 'concise-ness' and rapid loading as opposed to
using multiple images for navigation and I'm trying to determine what their
downsides are.
