Hi again,

I don't think we should become too technical here, but some answers
nevertheless ...

All information from Matchlogic is somewhat mysterical. The German
solution is in production since late 1996, the development is from
late 95 at least. I don't know if Matchlogic's patents are older, but
as far as I know, Matchlogic cannot patent things which are in use at
the point of time. But with no info from Matchlogic except some
hightech lingo, who can argue? (BTW. I don't think you can patent
things which essentially stand in the HTTP standard: A patent on the
use of pragma no-cache is as senseless as a patent on the use of a an
HTML table).

Yes. I haven't found the URL. The main difference is the 302 Moved
temporarily response, the rest is nearly the same.

I think you want to count the back-button page views. They are page
views in fact. The resizing may be a problem, if that's really true.
One remark: The methodology doesn't transfer a new banner, it just
tranfers a new counter GIF. It's just 52 bytes.

The technology of course isn't perfect, but it's
- more exact than without cache busting,
- netfriendly,
- available,
- comparable,
- works with old browser and
- works behind firewalls.

Some Javascript solutions promise more in some fields, but are less
compatible in others.

I you want to know more about the German solution and can understand
German, see

(Sorry, no translation there)

Ulrich
