I think Adam's original post was very right in warning for a
certain type of prospective advertisers.
I have also had these guys...
My site has a lot of information about electronic components,
mainly IC's and it has among a lot of other info lists of
companies per product type.
There was one person, apparently interested in advertising
with me that kept bugging me, asking for his (free) listing
to be updated, because he had moved his company or
whatever, but my site is so big (and mirrored to 30 other
sites world-wide) that it is updated in versions every
couple of months. I had to keep explaining these things
to him time and again because obviously he didn't read
or understand my replies. Well finally he ordered a very
cheap set of adverts (for only $40 per month or such)
and probably just because he thought that would hasten
the updating of his free listing, while (because of his
whining) he was just making it take longer.
I still need to send him an invoice, but doubt there is
much sense in doing it, because it will probably just
cost me a lot of time again...
So from experience I must agree with Adam that you
must weigh the pro's and con's of helping new
prospective clients and since Adam is clearly busy
enough with other serious clients he's probably more
inclined to choose to help his other clients instead.
Greetings,
Jaap
