hey all,

When I read greg's post, I got tripped up by the terms "leader board" and
"ladder." I asked him to send me definition and a URL of an example. here
is what he wrote. -- thx, richard

A leader board (a.k.a. ladder) is a system that allows gamers to rank
themselves in relation to other gamers they compete against in online game
matches or tournaments. Most of the online game services have ladders for
each game they host. Some sites, such as Case's Internet Gaming Ladder,
represent a wide range ladders from all of the online game networks. An
example of a Quake ladder used by gamers on Kali can be found at:

Leader boards are a great spot for advertising sponsorships. My experience
in repping the largest and most-trafficked site of leader boards, Case's
Internet Gaming Ladder http://www.igl.net has yielded some valuable
insights for media buyers/planners trying to reach the explosive
demographic of online gamers.

Unless a site has a large user base, sponsoring 'individual' ladders does
not offer enough 'reach' for a realistic sponsorship. Instead, advertisers
should consider a sponsorship that captures users on a multitude of ladders
categorized by 'genre', such as sports/strategy/classic games/1st
Person/Simulation.

I'm happy to say that Cases' is in the process of developing a report which
segments their users by genre. The question of 'reach' will be addressed
and consequently, realistic pricing established.
