This is called "environmental advertising." At least at one time, it was
being used in the Warner Virtual Lot web site. I also recall an episodic
web soap opera that was trying to charge outrageous CPMs for doing this
kind of things, but I don't think the business model proved too viable.

If you have been on this list since December, you may recall the "New Media
Startup Company" simulation game (http://seasonsgreetings.tenagra.com/)
that Tenagra deployed last December as a gift to its friends (including
those of you on this list). It proved incredibly successful, even though
there was no direct or environmental advertising involved. It familiarized
a lot of organizations with our skills, got them immersed on a branded
Tenagra site for a good period of time, and gave our current clients a
better perspective on how the industry looks from our end, which can only
further enhance our working relationships.
