Some mention of Macromedia's ShockRave was made in reference to this
subject. My company developed the "7 UP Mascot Basketball" game currently
being featured in ShockRave. http://www.shockrave.com

I believe that branded content is an excellent alternative to interstitials
or other forms of advertising that temporarily "lock out" the user from the
experience. Seamless integration of the sponsor and the entertainment
clarifies the relationship to the end user. It's obvious this piece of
entertainment is being provided by the sponsor, they can choose whether or
not to participate, and they can directly associate their enjoyment of game
as being provided by the sponsor. Users are much less put off by
sponsorships when they understand the nature of the relationship going in.

Integrated sponsorship is done tastefully (for the most part) in
television, film, sporting events, and all kinds of media today. Online
games and interactive entertainment have the potential to do this
successfully, the opportunities are just beginning to be realized.
