I don't want to bring up a debate regarding the level artificial
intelligence technology has currently reached and what it can and can't
do, but I am terribly disappointed in the current level of technology
apparently (from a user standpoint) being used by search engines (and
directories)--or rather the lack of technology. The technology in
search engines is geared toward handling huge amounts of data very
quickly--unfortunately it doesn't seem to use much technology in
processing the data.

I took about 5 minutes once and thought of several very simple ways to
solve that problem. My guess is that it probably just comes down to
money -- it costs bandwidth and CPU resources to weed them out.

You mean search engines can't handle frames? This seems absurd to me
(handling frames is not difficult)--but I am coming at this from a
technological standpoint, and not as a media/advertiser.

I don't think that's the reason necessarily (at least not the only
one)--read further...

This is the real issue. It takes a lot of capital to run a search
engine (servers that can handle it are expensive). Yahoo is already
there--it would take a big chunk of change to oust them.

Hmmm... Did that work? If I put my address here will someone send me
money? And I don't even need a few hundred, just one hundred thousand
would be quite more than enough.
We have already conceptualized something that we be believe will be the
next generation in search engines--but it will take time and money
(which we don't have) to develop. Just hope no one beats us to it.
