Hoping to get some insight from experience on the topic of classified
advertising on the web. We're currently researching technology to
implement a classified/marketplace area on Backpacker's BaseCamp. Our
wish list consists of a totally automated process that enables
advertisers to implement their own text, modify, renew and delete ads
that would automatically post in the appropriate category. Payment by
credit card only with near instantaneous authorization on the charge.
We've had a preliminary estimate for a customized program ( not
including the instant cc approval, does anyone know more about that
process) of $16 - 20K...way above our budget for this low cost
advertising. Does anyone know of any off-the-shelf programs, reasonable
in price? From what I have been told, most of the more sophisticated
classifed sites have custom programs, would it be unreasonable to
consider a licensing fee from these sites?
