Hi, Richard
I've been on the list for a about a month or so and find it to be
imminently valuable. Thanks and please post this query if hasn't been
addressed recently.
Thanks.
Stockpoint - http://www.stockpoint.com - an investment web site and
financial application licensing company, provides the financial content
section for Wired News - http://stocks.wired.com. As part of this
partnership, Stockpoint sends end-of-day investment portfolio and market
update emails to a large number of subscribers. Because the email
contains stock market information, it is important to send it within a
relatively short time frame after the market closes, i.e., within a
couple of hours. Using dual T1s, we have not exhausted our available
bandwidth, but we would like to have the capability to send as much as 5
times our current amount of email on a daily basis. This is not
feasible with our current system. We have considered upgrading to T3 or
using a couple of servers on dedicated T1s but are not sure that we want
to be in the business of developing high-volume email capabilities
in-house.
I wonder if anyone on the list has had experience dealing with bandwidth
issues which arise from sending a large volume of daily email. I also
wonder if anyone has explored outsourcing email to 3rd party companies
who specialize in sending large volume mail. What organizations are
doing this? And, what are the fees? Is it a charge per email, or will
companies be interested in advertising revenue sharing models? Any
insights that fellow list members have would be greatly appreciated. I
will start the process of contacting various ISPs, as I believe they are
a good start, but it seems a little daunting! Please repond via the
list or email me directly if you prefer. Thanks.
