Hi Folks,

I had put a question to this group last week about copyright issues when
using browser art from Netscape. Many of you replied w/ helpful info,
privately and publicly. Thank you. Since I'm no lawyer (I don't even play
one online:), I did consult w/ an IP attorney. He said the more you change
the artwork, the safer you'll be. Yes, some things are pretty generic
looking, but reversing them or changing their position helps to distinguish
look and feel. He, as some people here properly did, mentioned the Apple
vs. Microsoft case. FYI, they got down to details such as the handle on the
trash can.

The bottom line is using the images verbatim is a legal exposure. What
actually happened w/ my client (who prompted the question in the first
place) was she needed to change the artwork anyway because it looked
strange when seen in a much different resolution, size, and medium, in this
case in a DM piece.

Thanks again to those who contributed.
