I think Viaweb's studies offer a good starting point. ViaWeb Search Engine
Consumer Study, http://www.viaweb.com/vw/search.html, the first study comparing
the amount of money spent by online shoppers coming from different search
engines. Per capita spending varied surprisingly between search engines.

ViaWeb Keyword Consumer Study,http://www.viaweb.com/vw/studimpurrar.html
- study of search engine keywords used by online shoppers. The keywords show
that 70% of the shoppers intended to buy before they visited the site where
they
placed an order. This new data contradicts the widely held view that most
online
purchases are impulse purchases.

The studies are based on a very small, biased sample but are still useful.
